Carnochway Gundogs is owned and operated by Roddy and Fraser Forbes and is based in Nairnshire in the Highlands of Scotland.

Roddy Forbes is a highly respected figure in the gundog world, with over 50 years of experience in the shooting industry. His career spans working as a gamekeeper, head keeper and shooting manager on a large sporting estate, where he sharpened his expertise with working gundogs. He won his first Field Trial in 1983 with FTW Carnochway Roy.
Roddy has made up three dogs to Field Trial Champion:
1989 – FTCh Carnochway Daniel
1993 – FTCh Tasco Broom-tip of Carnochway
2024 – FTCh Millbuies Gilbert of Carnochway
He has qualifyied five times for the International Gundog League Championship, placing on two of those occasions.
In 2012 Roddy was inspired to take the lead on bringing the IGL Retriever championship to the Highlands of Scotland for the first time, during which he was steward of the beat.
Roddy was invited to captain and select a team to take to Great Windsor Park to celebrate the 90th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II in 2016, which Scotland won.
In 2017 after the success of the 2012 IGL Retriever championship Roddy coordinated and developed Skinner’s World Cup to come to the Highlands of Scotland.
Roddy has Represented Scotland over 30 times in international competitions, captaining the team from 2018 – 2021 and leading them to victories in Skinners World Cup (2 wins), International Working test (1 win) in Holland and Scottish Game Fair (1 win).
Roddy has won Home Countries International Game Fair on three occasions:
1990 – Margam Park, Wales with Carnochway Cane.
1994 – Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire with FTCh Tasco Broom-tip of Carnochway
2024 – Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire with FTCh Millbuies Gilbert of Carnochway
Roddy has judged at numerous top level events both at home and around the world, including the IGL Championship 4 times. He is also the founder and current chairman of the Moray Firth Spaniel and Retriever Club.
Having retired Roddy is now fully dedicated to Carnochway Gundogs.
Fraser Forbes is a seasoned dog handler with a wealth of experience in field trials and competitions. With a strong background in working with retrievers, Fraser has achieved numerous successes with his dogs.
2021: Won a 2-Day Open stake with Omachie Colonel of Carnochway, becoming a Field Trial Champion and qualifying for the IGL Championship at Ampton Estate, Suffolk (finished 2nd). Also won a novice trial with Carnochway Catchy.
2022: Carnochway Catchy came 2nd in a 2-Day Open stake and won other awards in Open trials.
2023: Fraser and Auchentore Comet of Carnochway won 3 Open tests and multiple awards. They finished 2nd in the MFSRC Interclub team and 3rd in the Kennel Club’s 150th Anniversary 2-Day Open test, winning the Mick Newsam Trophy.
2024: Fraser and Carnochway Red Rooster (Rocky) had multiple awards in Open tests, won his first novice trial, and qualified for the IGL Championship at Combe Estate, Gittisham after winning his 2nd 2 day open trial. Rocky was the youngest dog in the competition.
2025: Fraser and Rocky were selected to represent Scotland in a 3-dog team at the International Working Test in Belgium, where they placed 1st. Rocky’s grandmother, FTW Glenpatrick Mica of Carnochway (Kate), was part of the Scottish Gundog team that won the IWT in Holland in 2019.
They ran in the Moray Firth Spaniel and Retrievers Club Interclub team. This was a 3man team, Kerr Taylor with Carnochway Glamis, Fraser Forbes with OFTW Carnochway Red Rooster & Roddy Forbes with FTCh Millbuies Gilbert of Carnochway. At which they won the Interclub and Fraser & Rocky received the Top dog award.
Skinner’s world cup was held at Great Windsor park on the 24th and 25th May. Fraser and Rocky were selected to compete for Scotland, against 13 teams from various parts of Europe. It was a great competition, Scotland placed 5th. Fraser and Rocky received Top Dog overall. It was very nice to win this as there have only been two people to win this award from Scotland, Fraser Forbes and Les Mclean, both from the Highlands of Scotland.
